Frequently Asked Questions
Find the answer to questions like, what is CBD, what is THCa, and what is CBG.
In December 2021, Utah implemented a new rule that the amount of THC in a CBD product sold within the state must be below 10% of the total cannabinoids. To maintain the efficacy of our products, we opted to keep the THC amounts the same as our original blends and increase the amount of other non-psychoactive cannabinoids (CBD and CBG) to meet this new regulation. The increased cannabinoids in the Utah Compliant blends do a couple of things. The 1st thing is the increased amount of CBD and/or CBG for most people will increase the potency of the THC, so when trying the Utah Compliant Blends, we recommend starting with a smaller dose than compared to the original blend to see how you will react to the change. The 2nd thing that comes with this change is an increased taste of cannabinoids, which is somewhat bitter. To help with this, we are sugar-coating the new recipe.
If you live outside of Utah, you can purchase the original blends as well as the Utah-compliant ones, but if the product is being shipped within Utah, you must purchase the Utah-compliant blends.

CBG is known as the "Mother Cannabinoid" or the "Stem Cell of Cannabinoids" because all cannabinoids in the hemp plant begin as CBG. Enzymes in the plant and the genetic code of each plant dictate whether CBG will be converted to CBD, THC, or a combination of over 140 cannabinoids. Each of us has an Endocannabinoid System which is found in the Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems. Different cannabinoids interact either directly or indirectly with the receptors of the Endocannabinoid System.
The Endocannabinoid System is believed to act as a master control system for several other systems in the body and to be involved in:
Regulating physiological and cognitive responses
Various activities of the immune system
Appetite
Pain-sensation
Mood
Inflammatory responses
and many more.
There are two primary cannabinoid receptors in the Endocannabinoid System: CB1 and CB2.
CBG - has been known to act directly with both the CB1 and CB2 receptors like a key in a lock.
CBD - works indirectly with the Endocannabinoid System. CBD has been shown to help keep your endocannabinoids like anandamide from degrading, allowing your ECS to run more efficiently so to speak. For this reason, scientific studies have shown CBG to better supplement the Endocannabinoid System's function in some people, which aids in maintaining a healthy Endocannabinoid System, and all of the other systems it impacts or regulates. Because everyone has different needs and symptoms and because our bodies are all a little different you may have better luck with one or the other. Our anecdotal evidence indeed shows that our customers have specific needs that respond better to one or the other.
A- Our gummies contain 15mg of THC per gummy, so depending on your tolerance and how many gummies you eat, you might feel the effects a little, or you might feel them a lot. It depends on your tolerance for THC. Ingesting cannabinoids impacts everyone differently. We always suggest starting slow and doing some experimenting so you can figure out what works best.
In Utah and according to Federal law, they are legal. But you need to check your state's laws regarding the use and procurement of CBD and CBG if you order online. If it is illegal in your state we will not allow your purchase to be shipped. Laws vary widely by state and change frequently, so we may have to change on the fly. Our Utah-compliant Gummies are legal in Utah and most other states because The Farm Bill, passed in 2018, states CBD products can contain up to 0.3% THC. We also offer our original gummy formula that is legal in many other states. Our gummies have been third-party tested and are registered with the Utah Department of Agriculture to confirm that we are maintaining this requirement.
The main difference between hemp and marijuana is their chemical composition. Essentially, hemp and marijuana are the same species of plant called Cannabis Sativa l. However, marijuana contains a higher level of THC than hemp. Any product derived from hemp with less than 0.3% THC (by dry weight) can be classified as hemp. Any product over 0.3% THC (by dry weight) will be classified as marijuana regardless of what plant it was derived from. At Blackhouse Botanicals, our philosophy is that they are the same plant with the same potential to provide incredibly helpful products for the good of mankind. We use mostly the same processing methods, other than our proprietary techniques, to make our products as the marijuana industry does.
Hemp is used for a wide variety of products including: fuel, shoes, clothing, food, rope, paper, building materials, natural plastics and more. And of course Hemp is also used to manufacture CBD (and CBG) oil, gummies, energy bars, tinctures, topical ointments, and more.
Yes! - You can fail a drug test because of the way the drug tests work. A drug test doesn’t specifically test for THC. They test for the secondary metabolite that your body breaks THC down to. Both Delta 9 THC and Delta 8 THC break down to this same secondary metabolite. If you take a drug test, you can test positive for THC use even though you are only taking CBD or CBG products. If you are concerned about passing a drug test and need some relief, look for a CBD isolate product that is labeled THC-free and has a third-party lab test to back up its claim. ALWAYS research the company you are buying from!
Delta 8 THC is a naturally occurring, more stable, less psychoactive molecule when compared to Delta 9 THC. While Delta 8 THC is naturally occurring, most products on the market use Delta 8 THC that has been converted from CBD. Some less-than-honest people in the marijuana industry will tell you that Delta 8 THC is a synthetic cannabinoid, but it is not. All cannabinoids are relatively similar in structure and weight and are constantly trying to convert to a more chemically stable structure. This process is known as the degradation pathway. This process occurs in the plant over time and to a lesser degree than the process used to convert CBD to Delta 8 THC quickly.
At Blackhouse Botanicals our products are 3rd party lab tests for isomers, stereoisomers, solvents, and heavy metals to be sure that our Delta 8 THC products are free from by-products or contaminants.
Delta 9 THC is generally considered to be stronger than Delta 8 THC in its psychoactive effects. Side effects of Delta 9 THC are also greater than Delta 8 THC. Delta 9 THC side effects can include mental fogginess, increased feelings of anxiety, impaired motor skills, and more. Delta 8 THC, on the other hand, is generally reported to have a much milder and gentler experience. Our customers have reported feeling a great sense of calm and clarity when using our Delta 8 THC products.
Anxiety - Delta 9 THC is well known for its anxiolytic effects. For people looking for relief from anxiety already, Delta 9 THC products sometimes may not be the best choice as they can increase anxiety in some people. Delta 8 THC tends to take effect more gradually than Delta 9 THC, which is generally going to be more intense.
Brain Fog - Our Delta 8 blend is also perfect for those people who are looking for some relief or relaxation in their body without the “foggy” head-high feeling often associated with Delta 9 THC.
Body vs Mind – Most people report relief in their bodies without as much impact on their minds when using Delta 8 THC versus Delta 9 THC.
To be clear, however, Delta 8 THC, CBD, or any combination of cannabinoids can produce unwanted side effects for some and may interact with the medications you are taking. Always talk to your doctor before use, and start by testing a small dose of our products. You can always take more, but you can't take less.
The answer to this question is going depend upon the person's tolerance for THC, the severity of their issue, and their metabolism.
Our general recommendation is to start with 1/4 to 1/2 of a gummy. The average amount of time it takes to start feeling the effects of a gummy is about sixty to ninety minutes.
Everyone is different. You should expect to do some experimenting with our various CBD and CBG products to discover what is going to work best for you and your system.
This answer is very similar to the previous question. The general recommendation is to start with a half to a full dropper.
It may take a few days or weeks for the cannabinoids to build up in your system and for you to start noticing the full effects.
For this reason, we recommend using the same amount for at least 5-7 days before making a change, whether it means a little less or more, depending on how well the original dosage worked. Our CBD and CBG tinctures are some of the best products you will find and work unbelievably well.
A tincture should be administered sublingually, meaning under the tongue.
When the tincture comes in contact with the mucous membrane beneath the tongue it is absorbed and then enters the venous system.
After squeezing the dropper under the tongue, it should be held there for about 30 seconds to a minute to increase absorption.
What is left in the mouth afterward should be swallowed so it can be absorbed in the gut.
While federal law requires you to be 18 to buy smokable hemp and CBD vape products, there is no federal age restriction regarding edible CBD products. All states are different however and Blackhouse Botanicals does have highly concentrated cannabinoids in our products so we recommend our customers be at least 21 and follow their individual state laws. Please use caution with our products and never drive or operate machinery while using our CBD.
Is Delta 8 THC synthetic? No. Not even a little bit. Delta 8 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid like CBD, CBG, or any of the 140 plus cannabinoids in cannabis. Most commercially available Delta 8 THC products use THC that was converted from CBD. Naturally occurring cannabinoids such as Delta 8 THC can also be separated from CBD extracts using a mechanical separation process called chromatography. This is a slower, more expensive process, but the end results are the same. Delta 8 THC is a more stable form of the THC molecule. Because cannabinoids are so close in chemical structure and naturally degrade over time to become more stable molecules, Delta 9 THC slowly stabilizes itself and becomes Delta 8 THC. Delta 8 THC then continues on this path of stabilization, becoming CBN, its most stable form.
While there has been some debate about whether Delta 8 THC is safe, we assure you that we provide 3rd party lab tests for isomers, stereoisomers, solvents, pesticides, and heavy metals. Our products are all free from contaminants. Delta 8 THC has been researched and tested since the 1940s and has been shown to have many incredibly beneficial properties. The question "Is Delta 8 THC synthetic?" comes from disinformation spread by the marijuana industry and other special interests trying to protect their market share. While public health officials may have reason to be concerned about the production process and the cleanliness of the final product a company makes, cannabinoids have proven themselves to be safe over time. The same 3rd party testing laboratories used for testing any other cannabinoid can test for impurities in Delta 8 THC. Trustworthy companies will provide up-to-date lab results for all of their products so that you have no question as to whether their products are safe.
You never hear the media or marijuana industry talk about the safety of CBN because it doesn't compete with their main source of revenue, Delta 9 THC. Just some food for thought. Some companies have taken shortcuts in producing and testing cannabinoids, so you should always research whom you buy from. So, now, when asked, "Is Delta 8 THC synthetic?" you can confidently say it is not.
If you have wondered, "How is Delta 8 THC made?" we have the answer. Adding heat and controlling the pH under vacuum converts pure CBD into Delta 8 THC by pushing it down the degradation pathway. Cannabinoids are always trying to become more stable molecules, and this occurs when they are exposed to light, heat, and oxygen over time. This process occurs naturally in the plant, but the conditions created in the lab push the CBD down that path faster. The result is the same molecule as when it is converted in the plant, just faster and in a larger quantity. Delta 8 THC is not a synthetic cannabinoid. The media and the marijuana industry have influenced these claims. For comparison, the CBN in readily available products is converted from CBD using the same degradation pathway. You won't hear the media talk about CBN because they are mostly uneducated about cannabis or how Delta 8 THC is made. Our full panel of lab tests is always available on our website, and we include a QR code that will take you to our Certificate of Analysis page so you can quickly see that our products are safe and free from contaminants. Like any product, do your research and buy from a reputable source with third-party laboratory testing available. Now, when you are asked, "How is Delta 8 THC made?" you will sound like an expert.
There was a three-day study done to show that topicals containing CBD and THC do not enter your blood or urine and won't show up on a drug test. However, if your life or livelihood depends on it we suggest not using products containing THC. Our tinctures, vapeables, and edible products do contain THC and will likely show up on a drug test.
Although CBD is a natural, non-toxic product it can cause drowsiness. This can be beneficial if you are trying to get some much-needed rest and undesirable if you are driving the kids to practice or giving a presentation at work that day. If you are experiencing these effects negatively you may want to reduce your dose, only use it at night, or try CBG as it tends to have a more clear-headed and uplifting effect.
THC comes in many different forms. When people refer to THC or THCa they are typically talking about one of the forms of Delta 9 THC. More specifically THCa is the precursor to THC that is in the raw cannabis flower. So what is THCa? It is the acidic form of Delta 9 THC. When THCa in the flower is heated by smoking the flower or heating the oil, it converts to THC through a process called decarboxylation. Removing the carboxylic acid group from the THC molecule affects how the THC interacts with the receptors in your body. THC in its acidic form is not psychoactive which is why you can eat raw flower without effect but when the flower is smoked, THCa is converted to THC and becomes psychoactive. Now, when someone asks you "what is THCa" you can give them the scientific answer.
If you have seen Delta 8 products popping up in your feed and wondering what is Delta 8 THC, you are not alone. Delta 8 has been studied for decades for things like nausea in cancer patients and pain relief. Delta 8 is one of many forms of THC, but what is Delta 8 THC exactly? Delta 8 is a naturally occurring cannabinoid present in the cannabis flower. It is a more stable form of THC. Cannabinoid molecules are slowly but constantly trying to convert to a more stable molecule when exposed to light, heat, and oxygen over a period of time. Over time, Delta 9 THC is converted to Delta 8 THC because the chemical bond shifts from the 9th position to the 8th position on the molecule's carbon ring, which makes it more stable. You can see where the names come from. But, what is Delta 8 THC used for, you may ask. Delta 8 THC is used because it shares many of the same benefits as Delta 9 THC with less psychoactivity. This unique characteristic allows those who are sensitive to the psychoactivity of THC to reap the same benefits without the strong head high. Now, when you are asked, "What is Delta 8 THC?" you can drop some knowledge.
The 2018 Farm Bill made Delta 8 THC legal. Specifically, The 2018 Farm Bill made all cannabinoids extracted and derived from hemp legal and it only limits the amount of Delta 9 THC, therefore Delta 8 THC derived from hemp is federally legal in any amount. Some states have taken it upon themselves to limit your rights and access to some amazingly beneficial cannabinoids however so check your local regulations to see if you live in a free state that respects the rights of adults to choose what they put in their body.
